For strong, experienced rafters, there are some class IV rivers worth exploring. Rivers rated class four are very difficult and for adrenaline junkies with long rapids, waves powerful, irregular, numerous rocks, boiling eddies. The Middle Fork of the American River is class III/IV and offers excellent intermediate whitewater with big drops and excitement, even through September when other Class III-IV rivers in California are no longer raft-able.
