Choose Your Stay in Kings Canyon National Park

Get away from the crowds in Yosemite but still experience the gorgeous wilderness of the High Sierra in nearby Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks.

Kings Canyon National Park reminded naturalist John Muir so much of his beloved Yosemite, he once called it a rival. Here you’ll find one of the deepest canyons in America, the largest remaining grove of sequoias in the world and amazing granite rock outcroppings.

John Muir Lodge

Stay at the John Muir Lodge or Grant Grove Cabins and you’ll be walking distance from the Grant Grove which includes “The Nation’s Christmas Tree,” also known as the General Grant Tree. The John Muir Lodge offers hotel-style accommodations in a gorgeous stone-and-timber lodge.

In the guest rooms, you’ll find flat-panel TVs, a mini fridge, coffee maker and locally made wood furniture and art. The John Muir Lodge is a place to gather, and you’ll feel that from the moment you step inside. Rough-hewn, open-beam ceilings tower over the cozy lobby where guests put together puzzles, play board games and read books around the stone fireplace. The public balcony at the lodge’s west end is a favorite spot to enjoy the sunset, and you’ll meet new friends waiting for your latté at the seasonal espresso bar on the patio.

Grant Grove Cabins

Looking for a cabin getaway? The rustic Grant Grove Cabins located in the Grant Grove Village are a perfect choice. The Duplex Cabin with Bath includes a private bathroom. Otherwise, you’ll share a central bathhouse. Some cabins even include cozy wood-burning stoves. Looking for some history with your stay? Book Cabin 9, the oldest structure in Grant Grove Village which was built in 1910.

The Grant Grove Restaurant next to the John Muir Lodge serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The nearby Grant Grove Market offers snowshoe rentals in the winter, so you can explore the winter wonderland that Kings Canyon turns into when the snow begins to fall.

Both the John Muir Lodge and the Grant Grove Cabins are pet-friendly with a $25 fee per pet, per day. Please note pets are not allowed on the trails or anywhere besides parking lots, paved roads, campgrounds and picnic areas inside Sequoia and Kings Canyon national parks.

Cedar Grove Lodge

Or, head to the heart of Kings Canyon National Park and stay at the Cedar Grove Lodge. It’s situated on the banks of the Kings River and is near Roads End, the trailhead to explore many of the park’s most famous attractions. The lodge only has 21 guest rooms and they fill quickly, so advance booking is highly recommended. The lodge opens for the season on May 20.

All rooms include private bathrooms and heating and air conditioning. The counter service Cedar Grove Grill offers breakfast, lunch and dinner and the Lodgepole Café has grab-and-go food.
