They even look like sisters.

Yosemite initiated an allegiance with a new sister park in October. Berchtesgaden National Park in Germany is best known for its magnificent high mountain vistas, fabled blue and green lakes, spectacular waterfalls, and its unique wildlife. Sound familiar? They’re the same things that Yosemite is known for, so it seems natural to include Berchtesgaden to the list of three other sister parks. It was preceded by Huangshan National Park in China, Jiuzhaigou National Park in China, and Torres del Paine National Park in Chile.

Berchtesgaden and Yosemite National Parks also share an abundance of hiking trails, a philosophy of “leaving nature to its own devices,” and strategies for preservation programs. Both parks face common threats including challenges with water levels.
