Yosemite Valley and the Half Dome in Winter

Winter and early spring are the only times to see a pair of fascinating natural phenomena in the Valley. Frazil ice is freezing mist that settles in park rivers, turning them into giant slushees: Look for it along Yosemite Creek from March to May. And in the second half of February, the setting sun strikes Horsetail Fall just so, making it look like a bright red stream of lava pouring off El Capitan. Catch the show from the El Capitan Meadow.
