Many national parks proposed a fee increase for 2015, Yosemite National Park included. In the plans was an across-the-board entrance fee hike.

Whenever such a change is planned, national parks open up a discussion for public input. It is the people's park after all. During the civic engagement period, Yosemite received 2,430 emails, 1,222 comments on Facebook, and 16 letters in the mail.

“We want to thank all the members of the public that submitted input. Based on the public comments received, the park was able to make some important modifications to the final proposal,” said Yosemite Superintendent Don Neubacher. “The fee increases proposed will help the park keep up with inflation.”

Public Comments Affected the Fee Increase... Somewhat

Starting March 1, 2015, Yosemite will implement a entrance fee increase on a seasonal basis, not a flat increase as originally planned. Here are the fees:

7-Day Vehicle Entrance Pass
Currently: $20
Low Season Nov-Mar: $25
High Season Apr-Oct: $30

Annual Pass
Currently: $40
2015 Starting Mar 1: $60

Motorcycle Entrance Fee
Currently: $10
2015 Starting Mar 1: $15
2016: $20

"With additional entrance fees, we will be able to complete some critical projects in the next few years that benefit park visitors," stated Randy Fong, Division Chief of Project Management. "We want everyone to know that 80% of the revenue stays here in Yosemite National Park to make these projects a reality. Without the funding, the projects will simply not get implemented."

Interagency Passes

Passes such as the Annual Parks Pass, Senior Pass, and free Military Pass which are accepted at all federal lands will see no change in fee.

Camping Fees Will Also Increase

Current camping fees have been in place since 2001 and have not keep up with operational costs. The new fees effective March 1, 2015 will range from $6.00 to $36.00 a night. The fees were adjusted to be competitive with campgrounds in the surrounding area. View the rate chart for more information.
